Truwood Original

The TruWood Original collection is inspired by the beauty of wood itself. Natural occurrences such
as knots, cracks, sap wood and mineral markings become focal points, rather than being considered imperfections.

The challenges of showcasing the organic beauty and true nature of wood in a modern form is what the TruWood team thrives on. Imagination and a trained eye are key factors in working with wood in this way. Mother Nature also always brings her own spin and commands that every piece be one-of-a-kind.

For the collector that chooses to accentuate their living or work space, these TruWood Original furniture and serving pieces are sure to be loved for a lifetime. Each piece bears its own number, date and artist’s signature.

It took nearly 18 hours to prepare the slab, including cleaning and identifying the ideal placement for the unique walnut bowties.
The nightstands are made from reclaimed red cedar with custom metal bases powder-coated in bronze.

Materials:

  • Baltic birch drawers
  • Black walnut

The Story

Rhonda Mason approached TruWood Artisans for her own special TruWood Original piece — an anniversary gift for her parents. This outdoor bench was made with reclaimed pine from Alberta and provided to Rhonda without a finish so that she could have the guests at the anniversary party sign it. The bench was then brought back to the TruWood team for finishing with an outdoor lacquer.

This stunning custom wine table was created using a slab that had sentimental value to the family and had come from a large tree that had been on the family’s property in Revelstoke, BC for many years. The slab needed to be cut straight – during the process of creating the table, the slab proved to be weak but had striking grains. Walnut bowties and many layers of resin were used to help solidify the piece.

The Intimate Gathering

The original TruWood Artisans “The Gathering” is a 17-foot long table – a length that many don’t have the space for in their dining rooms. Lori Nelson fell in love with the design, but wanted something on a smaller scale.

The original TruWood Artisans “The Gathering” is a 17-foot long table – a length that many don’t have the space for in their dining rooms. Lori Nelson fell in love with the design, but wanted something on a smaller scale. After many online conversations regarding pedestal type, bowtie wood, colour and wood type, we delivered a stunning 8-foot version that she was thrilled with, fit her room perfectly and sits her dinner guests comfortably.

In Japanese, Wabi-Sabi is a world view centred on looking at the imperfect and seeing it as perfect. In honour of the meaning behind these words, we designed and created a low dining table. It’s something a little different — the black walnut has perfect natural occurances such as knots and mineral markings. The halves of the table were split straight down the center and are held together with larger maple bowties. The table seats 6 on pillows as the “chairs” for a memorable dining experience.

Materials:

  • Black walnut
  • White maple bowties
  • Commercial grade polyurethane finish
